about

Ending a four year hiatus with their comeback single Freedom, Dreams Divide are back in their stride and ready to face the future with new EP Milk and Leather.

For those unfamiliar with Dreams Divide, the duo of DJ (vocals, synths, programming) and Gem Davison (vocals, synths) exploded onto the UK music scene in December 2011 with high energy and engaging live performances that led to them securing support slots with acts including Public Service Broadcasting, Clan of Xymox, Covenant, Melotron and VNV Nation and performing their own strings of successful headline shows. The band quickly established a dedicated fanbase that, judging by the reaction to their recent single Freedom, have kept a special place in their hearts for Dreams Divide despite their long absence.

2021 sees Dreams Divide return with an expanded line-up and a sound that is the perfect evolution from their first incarnation; still laden with dancefloor-friendly hooks and high energy choruses, but now featuring and showcasing much more diverse influences; ranging from indie electro stalwarts Depeche Mode and Hot Chip right through to rock titans QOTSA and The Black Angels.

Milk and Leather consists of four tracks of upbeat, intelligent indie electronica. Musically and lyrically sharp and stark, the EP takes on the global predicament and the 2020 experience - both globally, nationally, and much closer to home with the internalised chaos that we must all confront on a daily basis. DJ sums up some of the overarching themes from the EP:

'There's a much more personal and political edge to our new material, mainly due to our experiences over the past few years, recording through lockdown and seeing the direction that the UK is heading in. While Dreams Divide was on hiatus, both Gems and I played in an actively gigging punk band. A lot of that influence has carried over into the new Dreams Divide material - particularly the more minimalist, raw production and our edging away from traditional pop song structures into more experimental territory. We're excited to share this EP with people.'

'We may be some way away from 'proper' live performances' adds DJ, 'but we're throwing our weight behind a full on and engaging live performance both aurally and visually.' He continues 'The set up for gigs is likely to be a very different experience from before and we need to react and ensure the energy and intensity felt by the audience isn't diminished. That's been a major part of the decision to expand to a live four-piece and bring in a guitarist and bass player - Kark and Ben respectively.'

Milk and Leather is released via AnalogueTrash in limited edition cassette format and across all major digital streaming and download services. Dreams Divide continue to donate all sales and streaming royalties to the UK mental health charity MIND.
